Enquiring minds want to know what weʼve been up to lately so here it goes, we spent multiple days on the TNT Leverage set providing EPK coverage of cast and crew. Canʼt get enough of those reality shoots for A&E, interviewing anteaters from Oakridge for Animal Planet and hosting a day on the stage with cast & crew for a "Grimm" photo shoot.

•  The Picture This Live Events Department already kicked some show butt this year. Their first large project was a Super Bowl themed event held at the San Francisco Design Center. This was a corporate bash for over 800 attendees using Intelligent Lighting, big audio and 18 very large HD monitors for game display.

Josh Kottler LE Department Manager said the show went very smoothly and his assistant Martin VanLondon did an excellent job with equipment delivery and setup. These shows take months to plan with several meetings to nail the clientʼs vision, location configuration, creative development, equipment logistics, transportation and crewing.

Oh, yes, we also did two other shows down there at the same time. Did we mention it was a huge success? Perry Loveridge was so focussed on show execution that he was unable to watch the game and see the awesome commercials. Thatʼs show biz. Check out the Live Events slide show for photos.

•  Twixtor is the new software. Time-remapping is the new buzz word at Digital Foundry. With this plug-in, smoothly changing the speed of your footage is a snap! Re:Vision Effects Twixtor is much more accurate, tracks objects farther, and exhibits fewer artifacts when there are objects crossing the scene to ensure consistent quality. This means less tearing and stretching of objects as they cross or go out of frame. In case you haven't heard Digital Foundry is editing in 3D and have several examples of 3D work. If you'd like to come by and check it out, just give John Meyers a call.

•  The Picture This 3D Workshop was a big success. We appreciate those who took a day out of there busy schedules to come out and learn 3D technology, see the newest equipment available and of course eat good food with other 3D enthusiasts. The big attraction was the new Panasonic AG3DA1Cameras. The PTPS Stage had several colorful and dimensional sets with props for the cameras to work their magic. With 3D monitors and large projection screens and three different 3D glasses, everyone was able to see their possibility of producing and delivering 3D entertainment.

Stereographer Craig Adkins explained the intricacies of shooting 3D while showing examples of his 3D footage. Craig said "itʼs not for run and gun". Now we know shooting 3D requires practice, equipment knowledge and the ability to think outside the box.

A presentation from Perry Loveridge proved to be technical and informative. His presentation covered, Safe Zoom Range, Absolute, Maximum and Minimum Parallax, Inter-Axial Distance, Binocular Vision, Convergence and much more. People were very engaged and asked a lot of great questions while picking Perryʼs brain and enjoying his random display of humor.

Panasonic Rep Bill Kupferle was kind enough to bring additional 3D equipment, discuss equipment function, play the Panasonic Video and share information about new video equipment that will be released in the near future. He said the AG3DA1Camera and the BT-3D 25" monitors are really hot items right now especially since the 3DA1 is the worlds first integrated twin-lens full HD 3D camcorder.

Once again, Picture This provided an informative, creative and enjoyable event for the local Video Industry. This workshop took many hours to create, prepare, setup and pull off. Special thanks to those who made this event possible including Craig Adkins, Bill Kupferle, Perry Loveridge, Rick Seaman, Burk Webb, Pro Video & Tape, Meyers Projection Systems, Josh Kottler, John Meyers, Martin VanLonden, Tim Carroll, Ben Olberg, AJ MclCary, Will Walle, Sue Spry and Camille Brite.

•  3-D at NAB! Perry, Sari, AJ and Rick attended the 2010 NAB Convention in beautiful Las Vegas and we’re still seeing double from the mass amounts of new information and technology. They say “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas”, but we had a mission to bring back what we experienced and make important purchasing and marketing strategies for the year ahead.

We saw the latest Panasonic 3-D camera systems, 3-D helmet cams, 3-D workflow solutions (still needs more options) and the new Blue Ray 3-D player and much more. We looked at every booth large and small. Some of the smaller booths had the coolest accessories to heighten performance of our existing equipment and make your jobs easier. Size isn’t everything. Check out the “Shop Talk” to see what we purchased at the show.

•  Picture has three new interns; Justin Stommer, Bennet Hunter and DR Garrett, with Travis Buffington returning to complete his program. Katie Sugar completes her intern program January 26th. She will be a fine asset to our industry.

Have you seen the stage lately? The sound stage has all new dimmable space lights, new paint, refurbished floor and a new high lift. This is Tim Carroll’s place and he takes great care of his digs and his guests.

The equipment room is the perfect place to spend a free day (especially when it’s cold
and raining) trying out new toys.
You can put on the Steadicam or test your hand-eye coordination when operating the Worrall Geared Head or maybe take a peek at the new Sony F800 camera with the a Pro35 adapter. Check out our website, see our gear and give a call so we can make these items available.

He brings professional skills with high energy to the plate and always offers a smile. He even smiles on the phone. Please feel free to come by and meet Ben.

• Pre-production is in full force early summer for a Picture This live event in Whistler, B.C. This event traveled several staff positions and a large truck load of gear. The show was a great success everyone had a great time even though there was no snow.

The Portland Creative Conference came back for another great show that was dripping with creative talent. Picture This was involved in creating the set design, providing stage equipment and the coordination of several volunteers to make this show happen.

The stage hosted a variety of projects including sounds checks, still photography and green screen productions. To see some of our guests, check out our Photo Gallery.

5-19-09:
• In case you missed out, Picture This held three events that showcased our arsenal of equipment and services. In February, Picture This built a state of the art exhibition booth for the Travel Portland Visitors Industry Trade Show held at the Convention Center. Our display showcased live event structures, designs, A/V solutions and a looped demo reel showing our quality of work.

• In March, Picture This hosted a “Cameras in Motion Seminar” featuring Jibs,
Steadicams and dolly equipment.
Each piece of equipment was demonstrated by trained operators who taught setup, function and application.

• April was the perfect time for Picture This to put on an event on our stage that featured
our live event services.
This was quite a show in itself with several high-tech displays using lighting, projection and effects. Talk about a well lit stage. The show was extended for two additional days to accommodate our guests schedules.

• Whether we’re promoting our services and equipment or providing educational training,
these events are for those who want to see new technology and broaden their skills, attendees learn how to add color, style and unique motion to their productions. Not to mention it’s fun, there’s food, and it’s free!

• Picture This would like to do a “shout out” to those who participated in these events, The
PTPS Crew, Randy Sellars, Burk Webb, Rick Seaman, Gearhead and Indigo Design.

• As for May we’re “chillin”, but stay tuned for the next invitation (hint: greenscreens and backdrops).

2-10-09:
• That’s a wrap for “Coraline”. Picture This provided crew and equipment to shoot behind the scenes and gather DVD extras for the upcoming animated motion picture “Coraline”. This was 18 months in the making, visiting the set and interviewing key people including Director Henry Selick. This was our second interview with Mr. Selick who we interviewed following the new release of “Nightmare Before Christmas” in 3D.

• New Orleans still has plenty of charm and was the perfect venue for a Picture This Live Event. With eight Picture This staff members and a few locals the 2 day event was a big success and received rave reviews from our client. Behind the scene players including our post production team, live event coordinators and office management help make this possible.

Keep your eyes open for the “Cameras in Motion Seminar” focusing on Jibs, Dollies, GlideCam 4000 system and more. This will be a hands on seminar.

10-5-08:
Picture This would like to introduce you to our new Production Manager Lisa Cicala. After graduating from Syracuse University in 2002, she moved to Portland, and has worked in the local film and video industry since. She brings years of production experience including editing and we find her to be a great fit. Many know her from her 2 year stint working for the OMPA office. The next time your at PTPS please don’t hesitate to poke your head in and say hi.

Third quarter ’08 brought several new clients and projects including multiple crew members for the Mountain Dew Tour, hosting a multiple day photo shoot for The Limited Too, crew and equipment for a stop motion animated feature film, crew and equipment for several local and state politicians, a wide range of production services for The Golf Channel’s LPGA spot and provided all kinds of equipment to several independent film makers for the 48 Hour Film Festival.

The Red Camera shows its value in slow-mo at 60 and 90 frames per second last month during a week long production. We shot the equivalent of 21/400’ rolls of super 16. This saved the client thousands of dollars in production cost. DP Perry Loveridge said “the footage looked awesome”.

Budget filmmakers in search of daylight sources are very impressed by our HMI1200 par sets. Older par housing with new lamps help independents light larger areas with daylight at half the price of regular HMI packages. Available in sets of two or even more savings on a 4 head rental.

New Equipment! Come by and check out the new Panasonic HS400 HD Switcher, Joker 800, Kino Diva-Lites and what might come in today.

Out in the field, PTPS crews and equipment have been on projects for local and national clients including: Oprah, Laika Entertainment, the Oregon Governor’s Office and various political candidates. On our stage we've seen hip-hop and rock videos, as well as Freightliner trucks. With the political season in full swing, our teleprompters are flying off the shelves as well. If you are a political candidate or the representative of one, be sure to book your project earlier. You never know – your competition may get to us first.

12-20-07:
